Having Kids promotes and protects every child’s right to a fair start in life by replacing unsustainable, parent-centered family planning models with the human rights-based and child-centered Fair Start family planning model.

We refocus family planning systems, making them less about what parents want in the short term, and more about what kids need in the long term.  

Child-first family planning means working with parents before they have kids, helping parents get the resources they need to give each child a fair start and promoting smaller, sustainable, and equitable families. It’s the best way to protect our future, for ourselves and for the people we love.

Having Kids works in four areas:

• Building Sustainable Families
  Building a community of families, celebrities, and political leaders who are leading by example and speaking out publicly about the need for child-first family planning.
• Preventing Child Abuse
  Developing child-centered Fair Start judicial orders for our legal systems to prevent abusive and neglectful parents from having, and thereby harming, additional children.
• Promoting Real Climate Action
  Working with cities and communities to improve their climate change policies by including child-centered family planning measures.
• Making Community Connections
  Urging environmental and animal welfare groups to make family planning part of their mission to combat climate change and protect animals.
