Children’s Rights

Justice begins before harm is normalized.

The Premise

“Are children born into safer, freer, healthier, and more powerful conditions than the generation before them? Protection must be measured, not described.”

What Fair Start Does

From a promise to a measurable start.

Fair Start’s children’s rights work focuses on the conditions children inherit before they can choose or change them. We examine birth equity, family support, child protection, and abuse prevention, then test whether institutions actually improve those conditions. The goal is not symbolic concern. The goal is measurable protection and empowerment.

01

Birth Equity

Every child should begin life with a comparable chance at health, safety, development, and opportunity. We examine the conditions that decide that chance.

Set the baseline
02

Family Support

Families need support before crisis, not after harm. We examine whether policy reaches parents early enough to change a child’s starting conditions.

Support upstream
03

Child Abuse Prevention

Prevention means changing the conditions that produce abuse and neglect. We ask what reduces harm before a child is injured.

Prevent the harm

Public Education & Action

Publishing research, writing to agencies and officials, building accountability tools, and developing False Claims Checker reviews.

For Institutional Valuation Systems

False Claims Checker

Children’s rights are not proven by mission statements, child-friendly branding, or selective impact reports. Fair Start asks direct questions of institutional valuation and assessment reporting.

Claimed benefit? Who is affected? Child protection baseline? Empowerment baseline? Changed over time? Future children counted? Omitted harms counted? Harm reduced or shifted? Independently verifiable?

Spot a claim that doesn’t add up?

Submit it to the False Claims Checker and help hold institutions to a measurable standard of child protection.
